The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

The legislation governing fire safety is the “Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005” This legislation identifies that there are “Duties” which responsible persons must be aware of. Dependent on the complexity and nature of their business the” responsible person” must implement appropriate fire safety measures to protect relevant persons in the event of a fire.

The law applies to you if you are:

• responsible for business premises
• an employer or self-employed with business premises
• responsible for a part of a dwelling where that part is solely used for business purposes
• a charity or voluntary organisation
• a contractor with a degree of control over any premises
• providing accommodation for paying guests

It may be deemed a criminal offence by the enforcing authorities to not comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
